Not all of us are always in tiptop physical condition. If you’re starting to feel a little achy around the edges, here are some tips that will help you fix your body until you feel like you’re on top of the world again.
First of all, it’s time to start eating well. As you get older, you’ll probably have noticed already that your metabolism has started to change – that cheeseburger, fries and milkshake actually will show up on the scales, unfortunately – and you’ll need to start eating better. The main tip is: don’t decide to give up anything entirely – enjoy a few squares of chocolate or a bag of potato chips every once in a while. Instead, focus on eating in moderation and you’ll be set up with healthy eating habits for life.
If you live a static lifestyle – and a lot of us do, if we have office jobs and sit in front of a computer for eight hours a day – then it’s time to get up off your desk chair and start moving. Whether you want to join a Zumba class and dance the night away or start practising your deep breathing at yoga, the number one tip is to walk more often. Don’t drive short distances – leave your car at home, put on some shoes that support your feet well, and walk instead. Not only will you enjoy the fresh air but you’ll also find that your stamina improves and that your back will ache less.
CONSIDER YOUR DENTAL HEALTH
It’s a real shame that in adulthood we only get one set of teeth – it’d make life a lot easier if they grew back. But unfortunately they don’t, which means that we must be careful to take care of our teeth. Make sure that you brush for two minutes twice a day and that you floss each time – this will help to remove plaque between your teeth that your toothbrush can’t quite reach. You should also go for regular check ups to make sure that your dentist agrees that your teeth are in top condition.
TALK TO YOUR DOCTOR
If you have any concerns about your health, talk to your doctor – that’s what they’re there for. If your hearing is going, your doctor can check that and recommend that you get a free hearing evaluation – hearing aids might just revolutionize your life. Don’t be afraid to go to the doctor – even if you have some symptoms which worry you, the important thing is to get a diagnosis as soon as possible so you can tackle your health after that.
FOCUS ON YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
Finally, remember to keep focusing on your mental health. No one is fully healthy unless their mind is too, and more and more people are suffering from depression and anxiety these days. Medication can help, as can therapy – but the most important thing is to admit to yourself that your mental health needs a little work. Being kind to yourself is one of the hardest but most important lessons that you’ll ever learn.
