Designing your own fitness plan

If you want to get into shape, there’s no better time to start than now. Working on your body or having new fitness goals are great ways to focus on your health and can also be a great new hobby. If you’re new to working out, it can be tough to know where to start, but this guide will tell you what you need to know about designing your own fitness regime to help you achieve your personal goals.

Defining your goals

To develop the most appropriate fitness plan for you, you’ll need to work out what it is that you want to achieve. You could have a target weight in mind or want to see more definition or perhaps you’re training for a specific event like a marathon. Having a clear aim will make it easier to build your own fitness plan and help you stick to it too.



Research is important for helping you to establish which types of training are effective and which should be avoided. You might even find ready-made plans that you can follow that are suitable to your aims. The internet has many sources for fitness information, but try not to believe everything you read. Credible sources will be able to give you honest views on everything from steroids results to the benefits of amino acids that will help you to decide how to supplement your training to get the most from your workout.  


For the best chance of achieving your aims, you should be able to work out how many sessions you can do each week and how long each session will be. Then you can add in the exercises to fill up that time, as long as you keep it realistic. If you’re new to fitness, it may take you some time to be able to complete as many reps or minutes as you’d like so it’s worth starting off with some introductory weeks that you can intensify as you become used to the exercises. Be sensible when it comes to how much exercise you’re doing. Too much exercise can be damaging to your body and can become ineffective if you exercise for prolonged periods.

Changing it up

Over time, you’ll need to refresh your workout to keep your body challenged and to ensure that you keep seeing results. If you’re a runner, this could mean training at an incline while those who are weight training could look at trying different exercises to target the same muscle groups. There are many ways you can refresh your fitness plan that will keep your workouts fresh and exciting.

Whatever way you decide to get fit, creating your own fitness plan is a positive step that will give you focus and help you achieve your goals.
