The Department of Health (DOH), in partnership with UNICEF Philippines, National Youth Commission (NYC), and Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) Pilipinas recognized the contributions of these young people in a youth fair in Pasig City.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The #KaBayanihan Youth\nChallenge supported by USAID asked youth-led organizations to help local\ngovernments with COVID-19 and routine vaccinations for children. Young people\nfrom Cavite, Sorsogon, Western Samar, Basilan, Negros Oriental, Davao, Lanao\ndel Sur, Lanao del Norte, South Cotabato, and Antique banded together to\nsupport local officials, health workers and their fellow youth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cToday, we showcase the different grassroots collaborations\nof local government units and youth partner organizations founded through the #KaBayanihan\nYouth Challenge, which have helped achieve great strides in protecting their\nvarious communities against COVID-19 and vaccine-preventable diseases,\u201d said\nDepartment of Health Secretary, Dr. Teodoro \u201cTeddy\u201d Herbosa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\ntwo-day activity showcased the innovative actions and meaningful contributions\nof the participating youth organizations and their local government partners in\nincreasing vaccine demand and uptake in their communities, especially among the\nelderly, children and adolescents, indigenous peoples communities, and other\nvulnerable groups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They were supported by mentors from\nDOH, NYC, UNICEF, and Y-PEER to innovate and localize strategies on vaccination\npromotion in their communities. Young people designed and conducted awareness-raising activities\nthrough film, community theater, social media, immunization caravans, and\nchild-friendly materials such as storybooks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThrough\nthe #Kabayanihan youth challenge, young people were able to exercise their\nright to participate and make meaningful contributions to COVID-19 vaccination\nand childhood immunization in their communities\u201d, said\nUNICEF Deputy Representative Behzad Noubary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the success of the program, young people have\ncommitted to continue support activities tackling routine immunization,\nadolescent sexual reproductive health, and mental health and psychosocial\nsupport in their communities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs identified in\nthe Philippine Youth Development Plan (PYDP), health is one area of\nparticipation where the youth can gainfully engage in. Hence, the #KaBayanihan\nYouth Challenge is a remarkable platform to realize this aspiration.
