The event also drew the support of other top government officials including Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Commission on Higher Education Secretary Prospero de Vera III, and Pasay Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The state-of-the-art hub is\nCarnival and UPL\u2019s response to the growing global demand for seafarers as the\nglobal cruise industry continues to rebound from the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was dubbed <strong>Anchored:\nFrom the Philippines to the World<\/strong>. \u201cWe chose the word \u2018Anchored\u2019 for the event\nbecause it perfectly describes the center&#8217;s strategic location as well as our\nfirm commitment to help Filipinos achieve their dreams of having a fulfilling\ncareer in the global cruise industry,&#8221; Carnival Cruise Line Crew and\nTravel Operations Vice President Richard Brearley said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Because the UPL-Carnival TM\nCenter is equipped with top-of-the-line equipment and well-trained staff,\nFilipinos looking to explore the world as shipboard talents can expect an easy\nand efficient application and training process. We guarantee smooth sailing\nfrom the get-go.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carnival chose to locate the\ntraining hub inside the campus of STI Pasay-EDSA to have access to STI students\ntaking hospitality, tourism, and culinary programs, as well as marine\ntransportation and marine engineering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Our partnership with Carnival\nis an investment for our country&#8217;s future. It gives our students more options\nfor a challenging and incredibly rewarding job that allows them to see the\nworld and meet people from a variety of backgrounds,&#8221; STI ESG Vice\nChairman Nick Jacob said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The cruise industry is\ncontinuously growing, which means the number of opportunities for those who&#8217;d\nlike to work at sea will also continue to increase. STI will strive to offer\nthese opportunities to Filipinos.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the years, the Philippines has\nbeen one of Carnival&#8217;s primary sources of shipboard talents. The corporation\ncurrently employs approximately 50,000 employees and is looking to increase\nthis number for its more than 90 vessels servicing tens of thousands of\ntravelers worldwide annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UPL, in partnership with Carnival,\nhas been helping Carnival meet its enormous manpower requirement by creating a\nsystem that&#8217;s designed to help potential Filipino seafarers across the country\nhave a seamless employment journey \u2013 from the time they graduate from maritime\nschool until they step onboard a Carnival cruise ship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Brearley said Carnival expects that global demand for Filipino\nseafarers will continue to grow. United Philippine Lines Executive Director and\nCOO Leo Oscar B. Tanseco noted Filipinos have long been known worldwide for\nbeing \u201cfriendly, hard-working, and highly adaptable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>United Philippine Lines President\nDenny Escobar added, &#8220;Together with Carnival, we aim to represent\nFilipinos across all functions.
