This year, Ride for Valor is slated on April 9, 2023 or Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), also known as the 81st Anniversary of the Fall of Bataan and the start of the Death March.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mike Villa-Real, PVB first vice president for marketing and communications, said the event, which is in partnership with the Department of National Defense, Philippine Veterans Affairs Office, Provincial Government of Bataan and Wartime Heritage Guild-Philippines, aims to preserve the legacy of Filipino and American soldiers who fought for freedom and democracy during World War 2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"812\" height=\"1024\" src=\"http:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Bataan2-812x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-8226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Bataan2-812x1024.jpg 812w, https:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Bataan2-238x300.jpg 238w, https:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Bataan2-768x968.jpg 768w, https:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Bataan2.jpg 864w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 812px) 100vw, 812px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The\nBataan Death March is a somber reminder of the bravery and selflessness of\nFilipino veterans during the Second World War. It is an essential part of\nPhilippine history and culture, and the Ride for Valor is an important way of\nhonoring the veterans and preserving their legacy. Plus rider get to learn more\nabout this historic event as they will be be traversing the actual route of the\nDeath March,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nride is open to fully vaccinated cyclists and all types of bikes with brakes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Villa-Real\nsaid the event will start at 6 a.m. from the Kilometer Zero in Mariveles,\nBataan, to Capas National Shrine in Tarlac. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nnon-competitive bike ride will have four pitstops: Mt. Samat, Balanga\nProvincial Capitol\u2019s The Bunker, San Fernando Train Station, and Angeles\nMuseum. Giveaways will be given in selected pitstops. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Villa-Real\nsaid participants may ride at their own pace, adding there will be a 12-hour\ncut-off during the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\nnoted that the event will also implement a &#8220;No Helmet, No Ride&#8221;\npolicy to ensure the safety of the participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Villa-Real\nalso said a mechanic will be available to help those who encounter mechanical\ndifficulties, while roving marshals will be present to keep track of the\nriders&#8217; progress. Support vehicles are allowed, but riders should only ride in\nthe vehicle if they choose to drop out of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nregistration fee for the Ride for Valor is P1,000, which includes an official\nevent shirt, a race bib, a trucker cap, a loot bag, an e-certificate, and\nmeals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Interested\nindividuals may register online at bit.ly\/rideforvalor2023 until April 4, while\ngroups may email rideforvalor@gmail.com .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants\nmay also register onsite at RD Cycles Libis Branch and RD Cycles Timog Branch. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those\nwho will join the bike ride must download the Traqs Philippines app to enter\nthe event. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Prior\nto the bike ride, we will be raffling off an overnight stay for lucky joiners,\nand on April 9, we will be giving two bikes as well as hotel gift checks and\nother exciting prizes to our raffle winners,&#8221; Villa-Real added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Organized\nby Without Limits PH &#8211; IGEM, Ride for Valor 2023 is co-presented by Traqs\nPhilippines, OneLGC, AIR21, Panahon.TV, and the Integrated Waste Management\nInc. Sponsors include Neo Zigma PH, Hotel Sogo, Booster C Energy Shot, and\nFitbar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nBataan Death March is one of the darkest chapters in Philippine history, where\naround 80,000 Filipino and American soldiers were forced to march more than 100\nkilometers in grueling conditions by Japanese forces in 1942. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Thousands\nof soldiers survived but many also died due to starvation, dehydration,\ndiseases, and the brutality of Japanese captors.
