That being said, the price to do so can be quite high at times. If you’re looking for a more affordable vacation, then camping might be the thing for you. When packing for a camping trip, there are a number of things you need to remember, from soap to socks, but there a few essential tools you really can’t live without. To save yourself unnecessary stress, here are six things you can’t forget to pack.

1. Reliable Tent

Unlike many other types of travel, camping requires you to pack your own accommodation. To ensure a warm and dry trip, you must choose a good quality tent with strong and reliable fabric, especially if you’re going to be camping through harsh weather. Make sure that it is also appropriately sized, with enough room for you, your gear, and any camping companions.

2. Waterproof Jacket

While a tent will provide shelter while you’re in it, you’ll also need protection from the elements when you step outside. With that in mind, you should find yourself a waterproof jacket. Ideally, this garment should be lightweight and easily packable, so that you can stash it in your bag when the sun comes out. If you opt for a larger size, you can wear a few layers underneath.

3. Survival Knife

Knives can be used for a number of tasks, giving them a permanent place in all survival tool kits. You can use them to cut rope and cord, prepare your meals, and build fires, among many other jobs. Quality is really important here, as cheap multi-purpose knives can be difficult to use, causing frustration. Knives designed specifically for camping, on the other hand, work well.

4. Sleeping Mat

Nothing quite compares to sleeping in a luxury hotel, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stay warm and comfortable in a tent. As long as you have the right bed on the ground, you can do just that. Air beds, though comfortable, are quite bulky, and often require a pump, meaning they’re only a realistic option when driving to a campsite. If you’re hiking, mats or air pads are the way to go.

5. Light Source

Every camper needs to get around in the dark at one point or another, which means you must have a light source to hand. This source should be relatively large and heavy duty so that it won’t get damaged or run out of power any time soon. Head torches and flashlights are incredibly useful, but it also helps to bring a lantern to light up your entire tent.

6. Emergency Generator

We live in a technologically-minded age, so there’s no use in ignoring the fact that most bring their phones and other gadgets with them on camping trips. While you should shut off your devices for a while and enjoy the world around you, it’s also crucial that you keep them to hand in case of an emergency. You should also have a portable generator to keep them charged up.

Camping trips require you to pack a lot of gear.
