Going on vacation should be an exciting and stress-free time, but sometimes when you have kids with you, it can be the opposite. Especially until everyone has settled down and acclimated to their new surroundings.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Booking.com conducted research across over 18,000 people from 25 countries worldwide, to find out how they cope in those make-or-break first 24 hours of a trip.<\/p>\n

When asked how they prepare for the first day of a vacation, parents said that the two most important things to avoid disaster were to bring travel games and books to occupy their little ones as well as having a first aid kit handy (both 43%).<\/p>\n

This was followed by:<\/p>\n

  • Packing emergency snacks (42%)<\/li>\n
  • Covering kids in bug spray\/sunscreen (41%)<\/li>\n
  • Making sure that they brought familiar comforts, so the space feels like a home away from home (33%)<\/li>\n
  • Packing key items (e.g. swimsuit\/ski gear) separately or at the top of the suitcase (31%)<\/li>\n
  • Checking out the fastest way to the beach\/ski slopes (28%)<\/li>\n
  • Packing travel adapters and chargers at the top of the suitcase (25%)<\/li>\n
  • Enrolling kids into a club prior to arrival (12%)<\/li>\n
  • Renting a stroller (8%)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Even so, two in five parents (41%) believe that the first 24 hours of a trip can be memorable – it’s sometimes the trials, tribulations, excitement and drama that are the things which can really make a vacation special.<\/p>\n

    Research commissioned by Booking.com and independently conducted among a nationally representative sample, provided by Research Now. In total 18,496 respondents were surveyed (1,000+ from the UK, US,\u00a0Brazil<\/span>,\u00a0China<\/span>,\u00a0Germany<\/span>,\u00a0Italy<\/span>,\u00a0Spain<\/span>,\u00a0France<\/span>,\u00a0India<\/span>, and\u00a0Russia<\/span>, and 500+ each from\u00a0Australia<\/span>,\u00a0Argentina<\/span>,\u00a0Belgium<\/span>,\u00a0Canada<\/span>,\u00a0Denmark<\/span>,\u00a0Hong Kong<\/span>,\u00a0Croatia<\/span>,\u00a0Indonesia<\/span>,\u00a0Japan<\/span>,\u00a0Mexico<\/span>,\u00a0the Netherlands<\/span>,\u00a0New Zealand<\/span>,\u00a0Sweden<\/span>,\u00a0Thailand<\/span>, and\u00a0Taiwan<\/span>), which included over 12,000 parents.
