Hungry diners in search of healthy and delicious plant-based cuisine in Makati can find everything from vegan popcorn chicken to meat-free lech\u00f3n<\/em> and dairy-free mac ‘n’ cheese. That’s why the country’s financial center has been awarded a spot on PETA’s list of the\u00a0Top 10 Vegan-Friendly Cities in Asia.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

“Makati’s vegan cuisine covers every craving, from <\/span>lech\u00f3n kawali and <\/span>isaw to doughnuts and cheesy quesadillas, all 100 percent meat-, egg-, and dairy-free,” says PETA Vice President of International Campaigns Jason Baker. “PETA praises Manila’s financial district for its cruelty-free fare, which satisfies diners, helps the environment, and prevents animals from suffering.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Pigs, cows, and chickens are individuals with emotions\u2014<\/span>they experience love, happiness, loneliness, and fear, just as dogs, cats, and humans do. Most animals who are raised for food are confined to filthy warehouses, where they’re deprived of everything that’s natural and important to them. More than 800 million farmed animals are killed each year in the Philippines alone in ways that would horrify any compassionate person.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among Makati’s unique eateries is Greenery Kitchen<\/a>, which serves meat-free traditional Pinoy dishes, from sisig<\/em> and adobo<\/em> to bopis<\/em> and pares<\/em>. Juicesabel<\/a> prepares vegan cheeseburgers, mac ‘n’ cheese, longganisa, and dairy-free cakes, and nearby Wabi-Sabi<\/a> ladles out ramen with faux meats alongside its famous “meaty” b\u00e1nh m\u00ec sandwich. Green Bar<\/a> serves everything from vegan roast beef sandwiches and popcorn “chicken” tacos to dairy-free grilled cheese and doughnuts, and even 101 Hawker Food House<\/a> offers veggie meat in the vegan section of its menu. The Kismet Caf\u00e9<\/a> now offers vegan cinnamon rolls and stacks of pancakes and waffles served with vegan butter and all the maple syrup you can ask for. Newcomer Charlie Does Manila<\/a> pairs “fish” and “beef” tacos with local beers, and Corner Tree Caf\u00e9<\/a>\u2014a veteran of Makati’s vegan scene\u2014has an extensive menu full of hearty plant-based dishes and desserts.<\/p>\n

There’s even an Instagram account called Good Eats Asia<\/a> featuring pictures of all the vegan-friendly items you can find in the city‘<\/span>s restaurants.<\/p>\n

Makati’s all-vegan enterprises offer vegan cheese<\/a>, lech\u00f3n<\/a>, ice cream<\/a>, cakes<\/a>, cookies<\/a>, and brownies<\/a> for those looking for more options.<\/p>\n
