Injured muscles and joints can later result in posture problems as well as back, neck and shoulder pain.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/kids-health.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-2679\" src=\"http:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/kids-health.jpg\" alt=\"kids-health\" width=\"750\" height=\"520\" srcset=\"https:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/kids-health.jpg 750w, https:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/kids-health-300x208.jpg 300w, https:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/kids-health-50x35.jpg 50w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), more than 26,000 individuals were treated in hospitals and doctors&#8217; offices for injuries related to backpacks in 2015, and more than 10,000 of those injuries were kids 5 to 18 years old.<\/p>\n<p id=\"continue-jump\">The\u00a0<a class=\"linkOnClick\" href=\"http:\/\/orthoinfo.aaos.org\/topic.cfm?topic=A00043\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\" data-include=\"300313485\">American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons\u00a0<\/a>(AAOS) urges parents and kids to consider lightening the load of backpacks to help avoid backpack-related injuries.<\/p>\n<p><b><\/b>&#8220;Heavy duty backpacks must be worn and used correctly in order to avoid\u00a0injuries such as strains, sprains and posture problems,&#8221; said AAOS spokesperson and orthopaedic spine surgeon <span class=\"xn-person\">Nitin Khanna<\/span>, MD. &#8220;Use both shoulder straps to keep the weight of the backpack better distributed and adjust the shoulder straps to keep the load close to the back. Roller bags are also a good option, if easily used at your child&#8217;s school.&#8221;<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><b>BACKPACK SAFETY TIPS<\/b><\/h2>\n<p>The AAOS recommends the following tips to help eliminate discomfort and reduce the risk of backpack-related injuries.<\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>School backpacks are for schoolwork. Carry only those items that are required for the day.
