Here\u2019s the thing when you\u2019re in the United Kingdom: it\u2019s harder than you think because, while Catholics do exist, many of the churches here are of the Church of England\/Anglican.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On one hand, without intending to gaslight, I often joke that it\u2019s not like you\u2019re praying to different gods (LOL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But on the other hand, actually dropping by these churches can be eye-opening. It\u2019s there, in the middle of the oldest city in Wales. But if you\u2019re from elsewhere, you need to travel to the city that\u2019s over three hours away from London.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ikalawa<\/em>, this is formally St. Deiniol\u2019s Cathedral, which has been used since about the 6th century.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As FYI: St. Deiniol, the 6th-century Welsh saint, wasn\u2019t \u201cmade\u201d a saint through the Roman Catholic canonization process. In the olden times, Welsh\/Celtic Christian holy figures were usually recognized by local church tradition, reputation for holiness, and their role as founders\/abbots\/bishops, rather than by a formal Vatican procedure. In the case of Deiniol, he founded the monastery\/church at Bangor around 525, so that over time, he was venerated as Saint Deiniol. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Ikatlo<\/em>, what to see there?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Architecturally, it\u2019s a mix of Norman\/Romanesque and Gothic. It does feel medieval\u2026 and grandly so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inside, you\u2019d see a layered medieval\u2013Victorian Gothic interior, apparent in the stone arches, choir stalls, stained glass, and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those stained glasses, let\u2019s emphasize, are from the 19th- and early-20th-century, including works by Clayton &amp; Bell, James Powell &amp; Sons, Burlison &amp; Grylls, and Mayer &amp; Co. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Should you seek this one out? Deserving <em>ba na sadyain? Kung nasa <\/em>area <em>ka na, keri.<\/em> Welcoming <em>naman ang<\/em> church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Otherwise\u2026 <em>rampa<\/em> elsewhere <em>na<\/em>, as I do <em>sa patuloy na<\/em> LGBTQIA+ wandering\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Seeking #LGBT #faith or beauty in #Wales?
