But this should not be surprising since this Roman Catholic church in Pangasinan isn\u2019t just a religious site, but is also valuable culturally and artistically.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some observations from us.<\/p>\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"tiktok-embed\" cite=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@outragemag\/video\/7625121571979513095\" data-video-id=\"7625121571979513095\" style=\"max-width: 605px;min-width: 325px;\" >\n<section> <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"@outragemag\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/@outragemag?refer=embed\">@outragemag<\/a> <a title=\"lgbt\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/lgbt?refer=embed\">#LGBT<\/a> and looking for <a title=\"faith\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/faith?refer=embed\">#faith<\/a> in <a title=\"manaoagchurch\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/manaoagchurch?refer=embed\">#manaoagchurch<\/a> in <a title=\"pangasinan\" target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/tag\/pangasinan?refer=embed\">#Pangasinan<\/a> <a target=\"_blank\" title=\"\u266c original sound  - Outrage Magazine\" href=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/music\/original-sound-Outrage-Magazine-7625121612845976338?refer=embed\">\u266c original sound  &#8211; Outrage Magazine<\/a> <\/section>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p> <script async src=\"https:\/\/www.tiktok.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Una<\/em>, placed under the jurisdiction of the Archdiocese of Lingayen-Dagupan, this place is historical. The original shrine was founded in 1600, with construction of the church started in 1882 and completed around 1911-12.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ikalawa<\/em>, there are must-check architectural features \u2013 e.g. the central <em>retablo<\/em>, completed by the Tampinco Atelier of Manila incorporates Baroque columns from the 18th-century altar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ikatlo<\/em>, the late Pope Francis raised the shrine to the status of a Minor Basilica in 2014. This means that it has a special bond with the Pope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ika-apat<\/em>, it is home to the statue of Our Lady of Manaoag, a 17th-century ivory and silver image of the Virgin Mary with the child Jesus. This was brought to the Philippines from Spain via the Manila galleon trade from Acapulco, Mexico by one Padre Juan de San Jacinto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Miracles attributed to Our Lady of Manaoag are numerous \u2013 e.g. the church being saved from the Japanese attacks during World War III, rain during droughts, and so on. Some of these miracles are depicted in murals in the church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And <em>ika-lima<\/em>, there are manifestations of the merging of pre-Christian with Roman Catholic beliefs. Outside the church, for instance, there are vendors selling the Sto. Ni\u00f1o with that big phallus, lucky charms along with those <em>anting-anting<\/em>, and <em>gayuma<\/em> sold in brown bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No matter the appeal, this isn\u2019t for everyone. For instance, the commercialization of faith is quite blatant (such as the selling of those merch), and it could be a real turn-off. Also, security can be O.A. tight \u2013 e.g. there may be times when this could feel unwelcoming, such as when the security guy approached us to enumerate what&#8217;s allowed or not allowed inside the establishment. Jesus himself, I&#8217;d say, could be questioned in churches like this because of how he looked and how he acted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But if in the area, you may want to drop by. Particularly since the locality does not have much to offer touristy-wise anyway. Your search for faith can be your key to discovering this historical, artistic and\u2026 yeah, religious gem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>The Minor Basilica of Our Lady of the Rosary of Manaoag is located on M.
