PFA kicks off Franchise Asia Phils 2023, organizes huge investment and trade show

Countless successes achieved through the combination of viable franchise concept and nitty gritty of operations will be shared at one of Asia-Pacific region’s biggest franchise shows, the Franchise Asia Philippines (FAPHL) 2023 International Franchise Expo, this October.

“Franchising has become a preferred option for most Filipinos,” said Sherill Quintana, chairman of Philippine Franchise Association (PFA), adding that the success rate of those starting their franchise business journey is 90 percent compared to those taking the traditional route.

“To duplicate the success is what the PFA has been busy with,” she underlined. At the SMX Convention Center in Pasay City from October 27 to 29, the PFA expects a jampacked week of networking, business meetings and exposition as part of its tools to grow and strengthen advocacy for the Philippine franchising sector.

The goal of Franchise Asia Philippines, Asia’s biggest and longest running franchise show organized by the PFA, is to promote franchising as a tool to create thousands of businesses and millions of jobs not only in the Philippines but also overseas. FAPHL 2023’s theme is ‘Fun. Friendship. Franchising.’

Joseph Tanbuntiong, the Overall Chair of the FAPHL 2023 Organizing Committee and Chief Business Officer of Jollibee Foods Corporation, reported that earlier in June, also at the SMX Convention Center, the FAPHL 2023 International Conference with the theme “Franchising Fast Forward” was held. The event logged total of 808 participants, mostly franchisors and entrepreneurs of different backgrounds in the food, retail and service sectors.

PFA President Chris Lim hopes FAPHL 2023 will be an avenue for more Philippine brands to go international and Filipino small and medium enterprises (SMEs) to expand domestically.

For this October, the International Franchise Expo will coincide with the meetings of the World Franchise Council (WFC) and Asia-Pacific Franchise Confederation (APFC). Both will be hosted by the Philippines. To be held at Conrad (Hotel) Manila on October 25-27, the twin event promises to be an opportunity for the Philippines to present its economic progress report to international visitors.

Along with the other activities on Franchise Asia week, it will be attended by hundreds of delegates from 30 franchise association members of the WFC, including 16 from the Asia-Pacific region that comprise the APFC and 16 European national franchise associations.

Aside from showcasing the Philippines as franchise investment destination, Lim said the Expo is an opportunity for Filipino brands to grow their businesses internationally as well as for global brands to expand their operations to the Philippines

For her part, Quintana said she has the Expo to thank for the success of her own company Oryspa, which joined in 2011 and is now a prosperous enterprise, not just in the Philippines but also overseas. She cited her personal experience with the Expo as a testament on how SMEs can grow and expand to greater heights.

This year’s Expo is one of the biggest PFA had organize as it occupies both floors of the SMX Convention Center. Expo Committee Chair and Bo’s Coffee President and CEO Steve Benitez stated that 1000+ international and local franchise brands in the food, retail and service sectors will be featured this year. He said there will also be special zones for Emerging Franchises, Highly Franchise-able Concepts, Business Solutions Providers among others.

In line with the PFA’s capacity-building efforts, the Expo will also have seminars for prospective franchisees and aspiring franchisors.

Independence Day (Araw ng Kalayaan) is a celebration of historical and modern heroes who have fought for Filipinos’ freedom. As we welcome the annual holiday, Ortigas Malls has prepared a series of events and activities that highlight our history and colorful culture.

On June 12, GH Mall, Tiendesitas, and Estancia will kick off their Independence Day celebrations in exciting ways, and shoppers shouldn’t miss them:

Greenhills

Starting at 10am, GH Mall will hold a Pagtaas ng Watawat (flag-raising ceremony) at the East Wing Atrium of GH Mall. A Marching Band will also energize shoppers at 12pm.

From 3pm to 6pm, there will be an entertaining and educational Likhang Sining at Kalayaan presentation by the Tanghalang Tula, Kundiman at Katutubong Sayaw. This wonderful display of talent will highlight our beloved Filipino culture through different facets of art.

Shoppers can also marvel at the extraordinary Philippine flag display at GH Mall made out of 1,400 origami flowers courtesy of Origami Philippines. The origami flowers symbolize the enduring bonds and deep-rooted friendships that define Filipino culture. Feel free to take photos in front of the display and share it on social media!

Tiendesitas

Known for being a home of local goods and handicrafts, Tiendesitas is celebrating Independence Day with a whole day of musical performances. Start the day off with a heart-thumping Marching Band performance at Level 1, Food Village from 10am to 11:30am. Musika’t Kalayaan at Level 2, Food Village will delight shoppers with Filipino tunes from 3pm to 9pm.

Estancia

Estancia Mall will also showcase local music for its Independence Day celebration. From 10am to 7pm, shoppers can sing and dance to their favorite P-pop songs at the P-Pop Music Fest: Hiraya at 2/F East Wing. They can also catch the Independence Day Marching Band performance on the ground floor of the East Wing from 11am to 12pm.

Red Bull Dance Your Style’s much-awaited comeback is taking the battle beyond the streets of Manila to every corner of the archipelago. The competition is open to Philippine residents, aged 18 years and above, who exhibit exceptional skill, dedication, and passion for street dancing. The quest to find the next wave of top Philippine dance talents will reach four major cities: Baguio, Manila, Davao, and Cebu, culminating in the qualifiers in Davao (June 29), Cebu (July 13), and Manila (July 27).

“We are so excited to have the third edition of Red Bull Dance Your Style in the Philippines,” said Philippine All-Stars legend Lema Diaz, who is returning as this year’s dance consultant. “It’s definitely gonna be bigger and better this year!”

Diaz shared that Red Bull Dance Your Style has expanded its search for the top Filipino dance talents for its third year in the Philippines. “This year, we have included North Luzon (Baguio) and Mindanao (Davao) in the mix for our search for the dancer who has charisma, skills, and passion,” explained Diaz. “Expect a tougher competition this year.”

She added, “Since its first edition, Red Bull Dance Your Style has brought the dance community closer and we have grown a lot stronger. It has been an avenue to come together and collaborate, learn from each other, and inspire one another. Every year is a chance for us to keep that momentum and witness greatness from our local dance community.”

Diaz offered her expert advice to this year’s aspiring dancers saying, “It’s important to show your dance, be you. Be confident and embrace your strength. Be prepared to perform for the crowd, they will be rooting for you. Don’t forget to have a lot of fun!”
