An activity as simple as walking, when done frequently, can have tremendous benefits to the body.<\/strong><a href=\"#_ftn1\"><sup><strong>[1]<\/strong><\/sup><\/a><strong> Some benefits of a regular fitness routine include weight loss or maintenance, the improvement of physical functions, and the strengthening of bones and muscles. It also reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and several common cancers.<\/strong><a href=\"#_ftn2\"><sup><strong>[2]<\/strong><\/sup><\/a><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kim Atienza,\npopularly known as Kuya Kim, is a fitspiration to many because of his physique.\nHis fitness journey, however, had a rocky start. The TV host had a stroke in\n2010, followed by a life-threatening disease called Guillain-Barr\u00e9 syndrome in\n2013. These incidents pushed Kuya Kim to lead a healthier and more active\nlifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, Kuya Kim\nruns, cycles, and swims. He has competed in several triathlons and races in the\nPhilippines and abroad. When he\u2019s not competing, he swims and runs twice a week\nearly in the morning. He also does Crossfit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While he has a\nrigorous routine, he believes that health doesn\u2019t have to be complicated.\nAccording to Kuya Kim, \u201cGood health is an accumulation of small but meaningful\nchanges. A sport or a workout is helpful but something as simple as changing\nhow you move can lead to better health,\u201d says Kuya Kim.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The TV host\nshares some elements in his fitness routine:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Starts the day with stretches<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kuya Kim starts\nhis day with stretching, especially when he can\u2019t squeeze in a workout in the\nmorning. Stretching lengthens the muscles and reduces tension, increases blood\nflow to improve mobility, and brings on feelings of positivity.<a href=\"#_ftn3\"><sup>[3]<\/sup><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To help keep his\nfitness in check, Kuya Kim does \u201cintermittent fasting\u201d or \u201cIF\u201d. In simple\nterms, this diet allows 16 hours of fasting, and eating what you want for the\nremaining 8 hours of the day. Because of this, he only gets to eat breakfast\noccasionally. But when he does, it\u2019s still on the healthy side.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s truth\nin the saying that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I make sure\nto have a nutritious and filling breakfast that can power me throughout the\nday,\u201d says Kuya Kim. He eats a balanced breakfast that has protein and fiber,\nsuch as eggs, Greek yogurt, and oatmeal. For the rest of the day, he <a href=\"https:\/\/news.abs-cbn.com\/lifestyle\/06\/30\/13\/kuya-kim-recalls-stroke-shares-health-tips\">minimizes\nsugar and eats mostly vegetables<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Uses the stairs instead of the elevator<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Elevators and\nescalators may get you to your destination faster but there are more benefits\nto taking the stairs. Climbing stairs can strengthen the muscles and increase\nbody resistance, burn body fat, and improve heart and lung function.<a href=\"#_ftn4\"><sup>[4]<\/sup><\/a>\nKuya Kim shares, \u201cI take the stairs when I can, especially when I only have to\ngo to the second floor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Walks or bikes to a nearby destination instead of taking\nthe car<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI walk or bike\nwhen the opportunity presents itself,\u201d says Kuya Kim. That means leaving the\ncar at home when running simple errands like doing the groceries or going to\nnearby locations like a favorite restaurant or a friend who lives nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The TV host\nadds, \u201cWalking is one of the easiest ways to stay fit and can be done by\nanyone, anywhere. You don\u2019t need special clothes or any kind of equipment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ends the day with a quiet meditation and stretches<\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kuya Kim ends\nhis day the way he starts them: with more stretches and meditation. He finds a\ncomfortable spot at home, closes his eyes, and watches his breath.
