While breathing clean air is important for all, those with predisposed conditions such as asthma and allergies are forced to adhere to higher standards of care. According to the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA), in the US alone, one out of five Americans suffer from asthma and allergies, and nearly 40 million people suffer from seasonal allergies. In order to prevent allergy symptoms and minimize the need for medication, the AAFA recommends avoiding allergens as much as possible and eliminating the source of allergens in the home.<\/p>\n

What many may not realize is the task performed to clean a home, vacuuming, may not only be ineffective, but a cause of indoor air pollution. When using any vacuum, carbon is emitted from the machine and left suspended in the air even after vacuuming. These fine particles, invisible to the naked eye, measure 0.3-0.5 microns, and have a greater likelihood of being inhaled into the lungs, where they are absorbed into the bloodstream or remain embedded in lung tissue. While your floor may appear cleaner, the air you take in may not be.<\/p>\n

IBR (Interbasic Resources), is a US-based recognized independent testing laboratory conducted an ASTM emissions test comparing five leading HEPA-filtered brands including Dyson, Miele, SEBO, Riccar and Simplicity.
