Despite recent misleading headlines,\u00a0Mexico\u00a0is safe for travelers planning spring break getaways, remaining tremendously popular amongst those looking for “fun and sun.” <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

From January – September of 2018, more than\u00a030 million international tourists visited<\/a> the destination, a 6.7% year-over-year increase. And as more than 94% of visitors to Mexico reported their travel experience exceeded their expectations, Spring Breakers should be looking forward to their trips ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

YesToMexico, a non-profit group focused on sharing fact-based information and first-hand accounts from travel professionals with decades of experience, offers travelers the following advice to ensure added peace-of-mind as they depart for Mexico.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  1. Familiar surroundings<\/strong>: Just as you would not take a ride from someone you don’t know or travel to an unknown neighborhood late at night, apply common sense when on vacation. Use reputable transportation and travel in groups to regular destinations visited by tourists.<\/li>
  2. Consume responsibly<\/strong>: The best way to enjoy your vacation is to remember your vacation. Binge drinking and hot temperatures are a bad mix. Stay hydrated and never accept a drink from a stranger. And if someone is trying to sell you something illegal, “no gracias<\/em>,” is advised.<\/li>
  3. Rely on your resort<\/strong>: Mexico has thousands of resorts that are dependent on tourists having the best experience possible. Their staff is dedicated to keeping you happy and safe, so if assistance is needed, ask uniformed personnel. If on the beach, only interact with resort-affiliated or sanctioned operators.<\/li>
  4. Keep in touch<\/strong>: Always let friends and family know where you’re going, naming specific hotels, clubs, etc. Also, check-in when arriving or departing.<\/li>
  5. Safe(ty) first<\/strong>: Use the safe in the hotel room for valuables, including a copy of your passport and a secondary I.D. If you lose your original I.D., this backup will ensure you don’t have to unnecessarily extend your trip (but who wouldn’t want to???)<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
