Trane is the first company to introduce hydrofluoro olefin (HFO) refrigerants for use in centrifugal chillers.

“Chillers lie at the heart of a building’s air-conditioning system,” said Trane VP for emerging markets and India Simon Ho. “This is why investing in the right one is essential to building owners.”

Trane is compliant with the Kigali Amendment of the Montreal Protocol. Established in October 2016, the amendment on “Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer” set a timeline for phasing down the global consumption of hydroflurocarbon (HFC). The amended treaty shall enter into force on January 1, 2019.

The Montreal Protocol, signed in 1987, sought to reduce the production and consumption of ozone-depleting substances (ODS) as an environmental protection measure. Following the protocol, hydroflurocarbon (HFC) and hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC) replaced the chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) that was found to cause a hole in the ozone layer.

The United Nations Environment website reported that under the Kigali Amendment, the richest countries, including the United States and those in the European Union, will reduce the production and consumption of HFCs from 2019. Much of the rest of the world, including China, Brazil and Africa, will reduce and eventually stop the use of HFCs by 2024. A small group of the world’s hottest countries such as Bahrain, India, Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates will stop the use of HFC by 2028.

The “Next Generation” CenTraVac and Sintesis chillers contain the refrigerants R514A and R513A that seek to replace the HFC-bearing refrigerants of older chillers.

“Since 1938, Trane CenTraVac has been known for being the most reliable, most efficient, and quietest chiller in the world with the lowest overall environmental impact. This product is the first and only chiller in the world to have type III EPD Verification under ISO 14025,” said Trane Philippines country general manager Norman Villanueva. “Meanwhile, Trane Sintesis has been designed to deliver high energy efficiency, robust cooling performance, and sustainable solutions to help building owners lower their operating cost and reduce their environmental impact.”

Trane has the largest portfolio of “Next Generation” refrigerants that businesses can avail of to make them compliant with the global environmental standards. Through the use of Trane chillers, businesses can also earn points from the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, a green building certification system. A LEED-certified building boasts of having environmental-friendly and energy-efficient features.

Trane chillers are used in Ayala Malls, in RCBC Plaza, and in Shangri-la, Marriott, and Diamond Hotels. It is also used by Makati Medical Center, St. Luke’s Hospital, and Asian Hospital.

“It takes more than just a high-performance chiller to ensure that a building’s HVAC system operates effectively,” says Trane technical director Kuan Yee Yow. “Apart from making these innovative products available to our business partners, Trane also assists them in ensuring that they are able to adopt a more holistic approach to building efficiency.”

Trane Philippines, a member of the global industrial manufacturing company Ingersoll-Rand, launched its line of “Next Generation” chillers.

[4,16
1852,1904,1905,1903
post-3795","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-newsmakers","category-product-showcase","tag-air-conditioning","tag-chillers","tag-refrigerants","tag-trane-philippines
["GET
