If your hair is short, you can ditch the comb altogether. A small bottle of dry shampoo will do wonders if you’re used to washing your hair every day – and let’s face it; you’re barely going to wash your hair when backpacking.

You’re welcome to prioritize whatever grooming equipment you’d like, but keep in mind that cosmetics and perfumes are likely to attract bugs – and animals, if you’re out in the wild. Good personal hygiene should make you feel better and help you maintain a healthy body.

Your teeth, for example, should receive the same treatment they get at home. Pack a travel-sized toothbrush, toothpaste, and floss to avoid making your hiking a lot more expensive when you’re back home. If your teeth are suffering after the trip, have a look at this article or book an appointment with the dental clinic Fitout for a cleanse. A stinky, sweaty, almost filthy backpacker is a lot more bearable if she welcomes you with a clean and white smile.

THE WASHING

If you’re out in the wildlife, chances are slim for offending anyone with your body odor. It’s probably better if they smell you, in any way, and stay away. In other words, you don’t need to worry about packing a deodorant. To feel fresh in the morning, make use of intimate wipes and facial wipes instead – not to smell better, but for your comfort.

It’s a good idea to bring these with even if you’re backpacking through cities, on a road trip or even that festival. Wake up groggy and warm in the morning with no chance of a fresh shower, and you’re just a few wipes away from feeling a lot better. Every opportunity you get to dip your feet into a creek, a river or even a fountain should be taken advantage of – all the walking will turn them into sore and needy companions.

It should go without saying, but bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer and stay true to it. A lot of times, and often on older trains, you’ll be left without clean water to wash your hands with. Use it after toilet breaks and before you eat; you’ll slice the amount of stomach trouble on your trip in half. If you’re backpacking through cities, take advantage of every restroom you’re using; it’s the perfect place for washing your face, brushing teeth, and changing underwear before the next train departs.

Anyone who’s ever been backpacking, on a festival or a road trip, know very well the struggles of staying clean.
