According to &#8216;<em>The Changing Face of Beauty: A Global Report<\/em>&#8216;, a study on global beauty trends conducted by Allergan, female beauty is no longer driven solely by a desire to look younger \u2013 women want to control how they look as a way to change how they feel as an individual.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Big-hair.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-593\" src=\"http:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Big-hair.jpg\" alt=\"Big hair\" width=\"622\" height=\"397\" srcset=\"http:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Big-hair.jpg 622w, http:\/\/zestmag.com\/online\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/05\/Big-hair-300x191.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 622px) 100vw, 622px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466934240393_158916\">In one of the largest research projects ever undertaken in medical aesthetics, <em>The Changing Face of Beauty: A Global Report<\/em>\u00a0captures the opinions on beauty and aging from nearly 8,000 women across 16 countries: <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Australia<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Brazil<\/span>,\u00a0<span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Canada<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">China<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">France<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Germany<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Italy<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Japan<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Mexico<\/span>, <span id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466934240393_158925\" class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Netherlands<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">South Korea<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Spain<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Thailand<\/span>, <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Turkey<\/span>, UK and the US. Allergan commissioned the research to inform and shape its marketing and educational programs and to inspire the development of products to address the evolving beauty needs of women around the world.<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466934240393_158927\">&#8220;When it comes to women&#8217;s beauty goals some key cultural differences are apparent. In <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Europe <\/span>women embrace aging naturally and subtly. In Asian markets, women want a more obvious transformation, while in the <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Middle East,\u00a0<\/span>women want to look more beautiful with fast, enhancing results that accentuate their best features. What is especially exciting about this new research is the discovery that women around the world are united by an increasing desire to control how their looks evolve with time,&#8221; says <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-person\">Caroline Van Hove <\/span>, SVP, International Medical Aesthetics at Allergan. &#8220;And whether through photography filters, makeup or aesthetic procedures, investing in beauty is their way of positively influencing their image.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>&#8216;<em>The Changing Faces of Beauty: A Global Report<\/em>&#8216; k<\/b><b>ey findings include:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Beauty&#8217;s new perspective: Looking good for <i>ME<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>For women seeking aesthetic treatment, a desire to boost self-confidence (42%) is equally important as improving the aesthetics of sagging skin (42%)<\/li>\n<li>Almost three quarters (74%) of women make the effort to look good primarily for themselves. Partners (37%) and friends (15%) have less of an influence<\/li>\n<li>General &#8216;beautification&#8217; (63%) is a bigger motivator than addressing the signs of ageing (50%), except in <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">China<\/span>where changing or enhancing a specific feature was the key trigger for seeking out beauty treatments<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;There has been a real change in attitudes in recent years, today it is what women feel about themselves that matters most to them. Although they are coming for aesthetic reasons, such as treating facial lines and fold, their real goal is to feel and look better,&#8221; said\u00a0plastic surgeon Dr.\u00a0<span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-person\">Mauricio de Maio from<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Brazil <\/span>. &#8220;Sometimes their request is to look less tired and healthier, other times they want to look more attractive and younger. When I treat women, I take the time to understand the emotional motivation behind the changes they want to make \u2013 it&#8217;s no longer just about what they want corrected, it&#8217;s about how they want to feel after the treatment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466934240393_158934\"><b>Putting the face centre stage: Skin quality the new beauty ideal<\/b><\/p>\n<ul id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466934240393_158930\" type=\"disc\">\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466934240393_158932\">When defining outer beauty, skin quality and complexion (56%) are <i>as<\/i> important to women as their body shape (56%)<\/li>\n<li id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466934240393_158929\">Words describing skin quality i.e. &#8216;complexion&#8217;, &#8216;glowing&#8217;, &#8216;clear&#8217;, &#8216;flawless&#8217; are the most commonly used descriptors of female beauty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;In this age of digital documentation women are now stepping much closer to the mirror to check out how their &#8216;close up&#8217; will appear on screen. So skin is now under the spotlight more than ever before,&#8221; said\u00a0cosmetic surgeon Dr. Jonquille Chantrey from the UK. &#8220;Not too long ago many women were more focussed on their wrinkles but now having healthy, plump and glowing looking skin is higher on their agenda.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><b>Injectables: a beauty choice for women around the world<\/b><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li>65% of women agree facial fillers are more socially acceptable than they were five years ago<\/li>\n<li>The highest levels of acceptance were in <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Brazil<\/span> (76%), <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Mexico<\/span> (76%) and <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Thailand<\/span> (80%). The top three countries with the highest number of users and considerers of facial fillers are <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Turkey <\/span>(96%), <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Thailand <\/span>(90%) and <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Brazil <\/span>(72%)<\/li>\n<li>57% believe facial fillers can look natural, but 21% are still concerned about ending up with a &#8216;frozen&#8217; facial expression<\/li>\n<li>The area of the face that most women are interested in enhancing is under their eyes, with 66% specifically concerned about bags under the eyes<\/li>\n<li>In <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">Brazil<\/span> women are most interested in correcting age spots (81%) whilst in <span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-location\">China<\/span>, 40% want to enhance their cheeks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&#8220;Most women I see are overly critical of their eye area \u2013 mainly because it is so heavily scrutinized as they apply makeup each day,&#8221; said\u00a0Dr. Jonquille Chantrey. &#8220;Looking happy and well rested is the key ambition for my patients and treating the eye area can help them to achieve this. Bags under the eyes can make women look sad and drawn, when they feel the total opposite. Addressing the eye area means their face will be a better and truer reflection of their emotions.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1466934240393_158958\"><span class=\"yiv3442254247xn-person\">Caroline Van Hove <\/span>continued: &#8220;<em>The Changing Faces of Beauty<\/em> report will help us communicate with women better and in a way that will resonate with how they want to look and feel &#8211;\u00a0this will help our customers approach their consultation and treatment plans differently.
