That’s the opposite of what you’re going for when you take a trip to the hospital or to see a doctor. But that doesn’t mean that the risk and danger isn’t there. In fact, going to the hospital could be more dangerous than staying at home. You might think that’s an exaggeration, but we’re not too sure. There are numerous dangers that you will only experience if you take a trip to the doctors. These dangers could severely threaten your health.

So what exactly are we talking about? On this post, we’ll look at the biggest dangers of going to the doctors. Let’s start with one of the biggest threats. The Superbug.

Picking Up Illnesses

There are two ways why you might leave a doctor’s clinic with a new and far more severe virus or illness. If you’ve ever been in a hospital or doctor waiting room, you’ll know, they’re quite cramped. You’re stuck in a room with a number of other sick people, all waiting for attention. You could be sitting there for minutes or hours. The longer you are there, the more likely you are to pick up an infection. Hospitals and clinics do everything that they can to reduce the chances of this danger. But in most cases it’s out of their hands. As well as this, there are things that they overlook. Doctors are under immense pressure to reduce waiting times in hospitals. A startling number of patients die every year, waiting for medical care. Have a look at http://www.telegraph.co.uk/ to read about these worrying statistics.

One of the ways that they’ve done this is to introduce automation. Rather than heading to speak to a receptionist, you can sign in with a touch screen. That’s good news for the receptionist. They don’t come in contact with sick people every time they get up for work in the morning. But what about the patient? They’re putting their hand or finger on a screen that hundreds of other people have touched through the day. Sure, it’s cleaned. But can you trust that everyone touching it has washed their hands? Of course not and that means it could spread infections.

But there’s another issue with hospitals too, and that’s the superbug. The superbug breeds in highly hygienic environments so immediately you should see a problem. Hospitals have to be kept to the highest level of cleanliness possible. So, they are naturally the most common place you’ll find a superbug. A superbug is essentially bacteria that is immune to antibiotics. It’s easily one of the worst dangers of heading to the doctors. Or is it?

Bad Medicine

Put someone in a white coat and they immediately become more trustworthy. At least, they appear so to patients and the general public. This has been proven through numerous research studies. If you put someone in a white coat, the public will do what they say. They trust them as a person of authority. They’ll take the pills that they claim will make them better. But, should they. Maybe not, because there is evidence that some hospitals have been bought and paid for by pharmaceutical companies. A hospital getting funded from a pharmaceutical company is a direct conflict of interest. But it still happens, a lot more than it should. That means the hospital might offer a product that is not the best treatment at the behest of the company funding them.

It’s not the only issue either. There’s medicine offered by doctors every day that has negative side effects. The problem is that they don’t always tell you these effects. They expect for you to read up on them yourself and maybe you should. Take Roaccutane as an example. Roaccutane is a drug used to treat acne. It’s effective too, almost a miracle cure. The drug works by drying out your skin. By doing this, it cleans out all the rubbish that causes spots. Some of the smaller side effects are chapped lips and hair loss. You might not want to take a drug that could cause hair loss, but in truth that should be the least of your worries. This drug, regularly prescribed to anyone over the age of sixteen also causes psychosis and even suicidal thoughts. It’s been linked to a number of suicides, and it’s still on the market. If you think you have been the victim of a bad drug, you may want to read up on your options. Even if it’s something that we need or that could improve our life, we’re still apprehensive. But for good reason. Every time you go under general anaesthetic there’s around a 1 in 10,000 chance something will go wrong. That’s a statistic you don’t hear about everyday isn’t it? But it’s true, and it’s not the only issue. You’ll also be putting your life in someone else’s hands. Can you trust them? Well, you better hope so. If you can’t, they might make a mistake while you’re on the table. This happens more frequently than anyone would care to admit.

Then there’s the issue of transplants. If you’re an organ donor, you should feel good about yourself. You should be proud to know that one day your organs will help someone else live. But there is an issue that you need to be aware of. Many doctors have spoken out about what it means to be an organ donor. If you go into cardiac arrest, the doctors may not spend that long trying to resuscitate you. Particularly, if there’s someone else down the hall with a better chance of survival. You can read about cases of this on a site such as http://gizmodo.com/.

We hope you see now that there are numerous dangers of going to the doctor.
